well i have been instructed by zefi to advise everyone that I have just rehoused yet another standard.
I got a phone call to see if I would take a 18mth, silver standard, desexed female...........................................
well i had to think about it for about a milli-second ( not really that long actually).
we went and picked her up at 3.30 yesterday afternoon... once the news hit the poodle grape vine here, in no less than an hour we were summoned to Terri's place for an inpromptu poodle afternoon tea.. well everyone was there. so the poor confused little girl had met everyone of her new poodle pack/family.
I had left the naming up to the poodle family to decided what they think is a suitable name. Once they all met her in the flesh it was a unanimous vote for PEARL, as she is the exact colour of a string of black pearls I had on... so I am to now be known as MOTHER OF PEARL, they all think it is hysterical, but PEARL does suit her...., my husband even has given her a necklace made of woven leather with two strands of fresh water pearls on it, so sweet!
We arrived home, had dinner etc and then headed to bed.. Pearl was so anxious (deservedly so). She has no idea where she is, who the hell we are and why are we locked in a dark room for?. Her previous owners had her outside with a cattle dog x kelpie, so she thinks she is a farm dog? (whats that about) She paced most of the night from each side of our bed, finally settling and we got about 4 hours sleep. Today both of us had to go to work so we had to leave her (for about 3 hours) on her own in our garage. ( quite a civilized one, attached to the house, we have carpet and a leather lounge for the dogs to sleep on, TV & DVD etc) our cars have never been in it. We arrived home and all was well. We took the dogs for a long walk along the beach, she ran and ran and ran, we doubt she has ever been to the beach. The whole tidal wave thing was a bit scary at first but once she got the hang of it she was running in and out of the water having the time of her life... She obviously needs to learn her new name, so coming to us was a bit of a challenge a couple of times.
Both have been fed and are sound asleep in their respective beds..
we hope to have a better night tonight, she does seem to be a lot more settled and getting used to us just as quickly as we are getting used to her.

Congratulations Carlene (or should I say 'mother of pearl'?) And better still congratulations to Pearl for finding such a great home! I know about no sleep. I'm lucky to get 4 hours a night. So busy with work and the puppies and stuff I need to do here I get to sleep late, wake up really early and get woken up every hour by the puppies!

Oh wow!!! Congratulations on the adoption of Pearl - she has found a wonderful home for what I hope is a long, long time. What does Harry think of her?
A silver standard. Lucky she is not a toy or I would be knocking at your door trying to steal her!!!Just joking. Can't wait to see photos.

There ya go, Carlene. Just downsize the larger ones and you'll about have it. Remember to use the / to end the tags.....just copy the ones there and you're on your way! I haven't had much chance to look at your images on photobucket, so haven't been able to pull these up for you. But it's better if you get it anyway, so what you've got is looking good. She does look like Pearl is a perfect name, btw!

UPDATE:
Pearl has settled in really well, we have been so lucky.. one sleepless night (her first night) but now she has the hang of being inside, goes straight to her bed. (a nice plump satin cushion, next to harry's, as the end of our bed) sleeps through the night. We have only had 3 toilet accidents, which was on her first day and her second morning. But now she has learned exactly what we go outside for. This was a little challenging because she was distracted by the horse, so it was a little hard to concentrate on going to the toilet..... but all is well now. She is getting used to the car, going everywhere with us. She just takes her cues from Harry, where ever he goes she just follows. This has come in very handy at the beach. A couple of times she has run off with another dog, not really realizing she needs to stay with us, and not knowing her name when we call her. So we just say to Harry, "go get your sister" and off he runs, circles her, she realizes that she is with him and comes back with him. We make a big fuss, saying her name constantly. (being one syllable and very close to "good girl", she has now figured out her new name)... She has meet all her new poodle family and is quite taken with Sir Stanley, an apricot boy who is only 7 months old. They have become really good friends. So all that was left to do was get her, her own collar, complete with the diamonte letters to spell out her new name, and patiently wait for her coat to grow so I can give her a real poodle do! waiting waiting waiting waiting waiting

Sounds like Pearl is doing great! And Harry likes his new sister! That's wonderful news. She's so pretty in your pictures. She'll be a knockout when her hair grows in.
We had a similar thing with Archie when we got him. He would go out the doggy door to go potty, and then he'd just hang out in the dogrun while we were all waiting inside to go to bed. I would tell Chula, "Go get your brother!" and she would run out and circle him and come back with him happily bouncing right behind. Works great, huh!

Carlene she sounds like she's doing great. I loved the photos on the beach. You have one lucky group of poodles out your way! Nothing like that here for our kids... You should put some of the beach photos up on a web page somewhere. They are just so special.

UPDATE 2
I am off to Surfer Paradise for a week with a girlfriend. (a thelma & louise type road trip) So Pearl is going to have her first "test". Harry is going for a sleepover over the weekend and Pearl will be by herself. Everyone is asking her to sleepover, but we think it is too soon. We have only really had her 10 days now and she has settle in really easily but we dont want to push it. She wasnt an only child before. So hubby will have to keep a very close eye on her. They will ofcourse go to the beach, etc but she will need to come when called, and not just follow suit.
This doesnt really sound like much of a issue, but we had a few anxiety problems with Harry. Without really taking note, Maxwell my first white standard at the time had a sleepover and we just went to the movies one evening, we were only gone 2 hours and 10 minutes. When we arrived home we didnt not have one vertical blind, in the whole house, that had not been shredded. He had gone on a total rampage (we think to just get out of the house to find us). So when Maxwell went to the bridge we had to work very quickly to get him over this. But being the angel that he is it is not a problem now.
