I am curious... those who show and/or breed, how did you learn about dog structure and conformation? Did you study, read books, watch videos, put hands on dogs with a knowledgeable person standing nearby to show you...?

All of the above - the most difficult part I find is the front - gauging the lay of shoulder etc - and sometimes I won't like the movement of a dog but I can't determine what it is that causes the problem.  It is really hard to find someone to mentor in this regard because I think many exhibitors and judges don't understand conformation that well.  Some exhibitors are not interested and go purely on attitude.  I sometimes think that what is flashy in the ring is not really correct movement.  I am not showing at the moment - we are concentrating on obedience and it will be a couple of years before there is room for a new show dog but I still enjoy learning about conformatiion.  I'm particularly interested in seeing how puppies mature (hopefully will help when it does comes time fto select a new puppy)
