HI

My dad is getting a standard poodle soon.  I raised one 12 years ago for Pilot Dogs, Inc.. and he has wanted one every since.  I helped him find one that was in need of a home.  He wants to learn more about poodles now, so Im here to help him research.  He has been looking at books and wants to buy a good one.  So if anyone knows of a good poodle book to reccommend, it would be appreciated.

I dont have any poos.. but I am owned by 2 Chinese Cresteds.  Between me and my parents there are also 7 cats here, and a hedgehog!

Hello and welcome! I hope you find your dad that special poodle! I share my home with 2 standard poodles, one toy poodle and a rottie/staffie mix. No cats but the yard is full of rosellas, finces, crows and kookaburras who have young at the moment and there's an echidna who lives out the back and often visits and causes the dogs to have fits of indignation. LOL

To keep it simple? The complete idiot's guide to Poodles. It is a simple read, and covers all the basics and tells you where to look for more info on any subject. Tells you how to find a good breeder, get in contact with a rescue, food, training, health, grooming, you name it. Just don't let it spook you; they give the best and the worst case, so you will fully understand what you are doing.
Tell your Dad CONGRATS from me. They are so smart, loving, and have so much personality, they are almost human. I am sure he is going to love his new best friend.

He's got his special buddy all picked out, and is going down next weekend to get him.

A family that is known thru the crested boards got this poodle last month.  The husband and wife took a mini vacation and went out of state to pick the dog up.  Barney was suppossed to be a service dog, and trained to detect blood sugar problems.  As a service dog, he failed them tho, and the wife went into a diabetic coma and passed away on their way home.  It was a shock, and very sad news to the crested forums to hear that she had passed.  It was mentioned that the husband was not sure if he was keeping the dog or not, since, with small kids, other pets, school and work, no one really has the time for Barney.

Dad mentioned again recently that he wanted a SP, and I remembered Barney.  So I got in contact with the owner and all the arrangements are made.  Mom and Dad are going to take their own lil mini vacation and go all the way down to Kansas City from Ohio to get Barney.

Barney originally came from Heartsong kennels.  They are the people who sold Barney to the family under the pretense that he was a service dog.  I dont know if anyone here is familiar with that kennel, but they were very recently busted for child pornography, it was discovered that they had 20-some dogs in poor condition and living in filth.  One pup had to be euthed.. and there were 8 dead pups found in the freezer.

OMG. I did hear about that on the lists. How horrible. I'm so glad Barney has found your father and will be in a loving home. Its a terrible thing about his first owner... but not poor Barney's fault if he wasnt trained for that... what a sad story.

No, its not Barney's fault.  He will make a great pet, which is what my dad wants.  The family who has him would love to keep him, but with just one parent now, they just do not have the time for him.

Just one more bit of dirt that can be added to HeartSong's reputation.

I did try a pedigree search for "heartsong" and found this pedigree.. I believe its Barney's..  the call name is Barney..  Barney is 4 years old and blue too.

If that is Barney's ped, the good news is that he had an OFA rating and has good hips.

What do you say to something like that!!!!!!! Other than I am so sorry to hear about it. There are just too many sick people in this world.
Well I am glad that Barney will have a good home with your Dad.
PS I want to see pictures when he gets home.
