Barney is home now.  He is getting along well with the other pets.  Precious is trying to push his buttons a lil to get a reachtion from him.. but he just ignores her.  He learned real quick where the treat jar is.  He hasnt been groomed for a few weeks, so I did a quick job on his face to get the hair out of his eyes.. it looked like the hair was irritating him.. plus he couldnt see!  LOL  I will give him a better groom job in a few days once he's settled in.

He's a very nice, calm dog.  He doesnt seem to have any bad habits.  He is a lil thin, I think.. but he will fatten up.  The previous owners were feeding him Ol' Roy (bah garbage!).. he does have abit of a doggy odor, and I can feel abit of greasiness in his coat, which is probably from the garbage chow.  I told dad he will do nicely on the California Natural that I feed mine.  Dad is going to pick up a big bag of CN tommorrow.  His coat will come in softer after a month or so on it, and the odor will go away.

I will post some pics later when I get them uploaded from the camera.

I dunno if he's really a rescue or not?  The people we got him from..  they made a lil mini vacation and traveled from Kansas, to I think South Dakota? to go pick him up.  This was in late October.  They got him, with the understanding that he was a trained service dog, and could detect blood sugar problems.  They did some touring on the way home.  Evidently, tho, Barney was not the trained dog they thought he was.  The wife had problems on the day they were heading home.. Barney never once alerted her.  She ended up going into a diabetic coma and died.. she never even made it home.

The husband decided that between the young kids, and everyone's work and school schedules, and the current pets, and trying to do it all on his own now.. the family just didnt have the time for Barney.  I had found out about him thru the Crested forums, because the wife was well-known in the Crested community.

I got in contact with him about Barney, and we made arrangements to get him for my dad.  Dad loves the dog, he's wanted a standard for a long time.. ever since I raised one for Pilot Dogs.

Barney did not come from a good situation originally tho.. the people that sold him to this family was HeartSong kennels.  Im sure some of you have heard about them..  they were recently busted for Child Pornography, and in the process of investigating that, it was discovered that they had 20-some poodles in poor condition.  They were living in total filth, many of the dogs had bad intestinal worms, and giardia.  One dog had to be put down.. there was also 8 dead puppies in the freezer.  I think Barney may still have worms, dad is going to take him to the vet soon, he's going to be due for a Rabies soon anyways.  Barney is a lil thin, I think.. I can feel the ribs a lil more easily than I care for.

Howray! Congratulation's on your new home Barney! I am sure you are going to love your new family, and that they already love you.
I love the pictures of Barney, he looks like a big loveable boy. A good bath and a nicely scented conditioner and he'll smell as good as he looks.

Finally!!! Welcome Barney.  Sending big hugs from burnie-hot Rockhampton, Australia.  I wish him many years of good health and happiness.  He certainly sounds like he deserves it.

Barney's one eye still seemed to be bothering him.. I did a little better trim job with the clippers, and scissored his top knot.. and his eye still bothered him.  I took a closer look at the eye and saw that the lashes seemed to be curling into the eye.  I told dad that I suspect entropian, and told him to have the vet check it closer.  I know shar-pei's are real prone to that problem.  I also started to get some of the hair out of his ears.. he was a lil sensitive about his ears being messed with.

Barney had his vet appt this morning.. he has an ear infection starting, so he has medicine to take care of that.  He also does have entropian, and has a surgury scheduled at the beginning of next month to correct that.

We discovered that his breeder is Kit-Sue's kennels.  Dad called her.  She seemed quite relieved that Barney was in a good home.  She told my dad that when she heard about the mess with HeartSong, she tried to call the humane society and find out if Barney was there.
