Shampoos?

Dad asked what shampoos I thought would work well on Barney's coat.

At the moment his coat has a "greasy" feel to it.. and he has a doggie odor.. which I am thinking is the Ol' Roy dog food that he was fed... a month or so on good food and his coat will be in better shape.

What shampoos do you reccommend for Poo coats?

I am sure you are going to get much better responses than this, but I'll just share what we use. The shampoo, we need to change, (Jeff's allergic) so I'll be watching this post too. But I use Suave conditioner on Oden after the shampoo. Yes I know not to use human stuff on dogs, but it doesn't seem to affect him, and it does make him REALLY soft, and easy to comb, and he smells SO GOOD after.

We have used Suave and others
in the grooming shop and on many generations of show
coated Pekingese and Standard,Toy Poodles, all with wonderful coats ;-)
We also use the Eqyss Micro Tek shampoo................and recently(last
year) started using a good oatmeal shampoo for puppies and any one
itchy(Pekes like to scratch!).............I forget the name right now
though............I say use what works for you and your Poodle!!!!!!

Here is one of brown SP puppies that will be picked up in the morning, I may use this photo for my Christmas card.........

I've used all kinds of shampoos - starting with Johnson's Baby Shampoo to dog shampoos to human shampoos again and all kinds... I've even used diluted Martha Gardener's Wool Wash! LOL

The trick I think, when using human shampoos, is to use some vinegar in the rinse to balance the pH. At least thats what I've been told and what I do most of the time.

When I was a boy my family had a dog that had a lot of problems with his skin. You really could not give him a bath. The only thing that worked well and didn't cause him problems is baby shampoo.

I use the Number one brand #1 All systems shampoo and conditioner.
I have also heard alot of great things about the Dezynadog shampoo!

My above-all-others hands-down favorite is EQyss shampoos, conditioners, and moisturizers (spray leave-in).  They rinse out easily, and the (EQyss) Micro-Tek line really, really helps dogs with skin problems, be it from allergies to flea bite dermatitis, offering immediate itch relief, and healing properties.

I use both dog shampoos and humans ones as well. My dogs spent a fair amount in salt water at the beach and doing doggy things, some of which do not smell the best, other story, as a result I think humans ones will be fine.
But as stated by Zefi the vinegar is great way to assist with the PH balance. In the final rinse I use a little apple cider vinegar about a cap to 2 litres. But my ratio may not be the best.
