I already have a temp. crate that is on loan to me from my parents. They had an extra they don't need right now and it will be fine for a few months. I know you guys don't hunt, but you understand camping. I am looking for something that I can transport and use in my house. I hope the that xlarge size would be big enough for my poodle. I know these things split in half. I wondered if they are pretty easy to take apart and put together. I also wondered if it would fit in my civic apart.

For ease of storage, transportation and fast assembly I would go for the wire crate rather than plastic type.

I really hate the wire ones. I don't know why. Maybe because I grew up with them. They do pack up small though. I am sure I will get a metal wire one when its all said and done. Yuck lol.

Does is get hot where you are?  Living in Australia the majority of crates are wire as ventilation is soooo important.  Do you do hunting trials in winter or summer?   My wire crates are black and then I put a nice cushion in there - you could get a cover made or go the blokey one I saw on the web link you gave Big Grin

I live in ohio, but I guess it could get hot. Your right though about the vent thing. I just don't like them, but it makes sense.

I will never do trials. I am not into competing.

I gave up on plastic crates for anything other than transport when I found condensation in the bottom of Billy’s crate when he was a youngster. Ugh.

I hate the plastic crates.  We had those with our first poodles, and I'll never get them again except maybe if I needed to ship a dog.  They can barely see out of them and I just hate them.  I love the huge steel crates we buy our SPs.  They are tough and smooth, and have doors on three sides (if needed).  I'll go find it for you...  (Midwest makes great crates)

This is the crate we use in the house:

Looks like they makes a folding crate for the car:

And what a cute camping version!  Lots of openings for air to flow through..

I have simple wire crates with doors on one side but doors on three sides would be nice. You could put them anywhere then!

I found a petmate popup camper type cage at walmart. I only got it for when I go and see friends or my family. I will tell you for 16 bucks it worked really well. I was really surprised. It folds up into nothing and is very light and fits into a bag. It is fully vented and I would recommend this to anyone unless you have a digger.
