Was anyone watching the news tonight? (13 jan)

A "kennel" was raided and over 100 dogs were seized, nearly all were poodles.
I'm disgusted. How can anyone keep that many dogs.  Mad

The RSPCA says they are investigating laying charges against a woman whose kennel in Brisbane's south was discovered containing 101 dogs in "appalling" conditions.

RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said the dogs, mostly poodles, were being nursed back to health following a raid on the kennel, at Waterford, in Brisbane's south, on Wednesday.

Mr Beatty said the woman had been a breeder whose kennel licence had lapsed.

He said conditions at the kennel were "appalling".

"Virtually all of them had fur that hadn't been clipped in god knows how long and mattered, clotted with urine and faeces," he said.

"They had ear infections, they had maggots in places where you really don't want maggots."

He said investigations were continuing and the woman could face charges under animal care and protection legislation.

The woman initially refused to let officers in until they warned her that if she continued to relent she would have her door kicked down.

She yelled that their claims were "vexatious" and "false", the Daily Telegraph reported.

When confronted, the woman reportedly admitted that looking after the dogs was too much for her.

"I agree it's too much for me," she allegedly told inspectors.

The dogs seized from the property included eight who were boarded there by their owners.

Mrs Robinson is named as the owner of the "breeding and grooming" business on the Australian Securities and Investment Commission register, the Telegraph reported.

those poor babies, i just had to leave the room while the broadcast was on..

i do volunteer clips for the rspca myself, ( as they prefer to get an independent body to do it, better in court) so we take pics and i complete a full evaluation, keep the fur as evidence.. etc.. anyway what i was wanting to mention that whenever we have received such a case the dogs are usually so grateful and behaviour most graciously..  as i stood there and watched the volunteers shaving and washing a few of those babies they very so very weak they could hardly stand, but there was a camera shot of one in the bath and it was virtually in heaven as it was being bathed.. the look on his face is what rescuing is all about... they all just want to be loved!

i have already contacted mark pearson from animal liberation here to see if we can help with rehousing, but i think its going to be a while...

we are all wishing we were closer to care for these babies..

but the bottom line is the maximum fine that this woman will get if found guilty is $2000.

we also had a report last week of a retired race horse that was brutally stabbed 15 times in his paddock, the rspca spokesman quoted the maximum fine being $2000 but as this horse was actually killed they intended to seek a 2 year jail term...

IF THIS WAS A HUMAN, ITS MURDER!

sorry i will get off my soapbox now..

I saw it and was disgusted.  I'd love to have a few of them at my place.

If I didn't have so many animals now, I would love to adopt one of these darlings. There's a few issues, one most likely all of them are adults may not be used to two odd siamese cats. Two we have two dogs already, one grumpy mixed breed and another hyperactive toy poodle who would love a play mate, and we also have birds and fish to look after. And thirdly I wouldn't even know if i would be prepared to take on the responsibility of rehabilitating a mistreated dog. But in my heart I know I could. I think the main issue is i already have enough responsibility of training my hyper toy poodle pup. Pleased

If I was closer I'd help...

I wont go into it but this wasnt the first time she was raided.... Its sad.

No matter how hard life gets there's no excuse for keeping that many dogs and NOT caring for them.

HELP......... HELP........... HELP.......... HELP...............

I had a phone call from the my friend, Mark Pearson. (president of animal liberation here in nsw)..

the wonderful people of brisbane are now starting to organize FOREVER HOMES for these poor babies.
so if anyone knows of anyone that is able to offer a forever home to one of these dogs please contact the RSPCA in brisbane or you can email me privately and i will forward it onto to mark..

as you can imagine this has been and is going to be a huge task for the many volunteers who have thus far, bathed, clipped, wormed, demaggotted and are now trying to feed up the many dogs that have survived this nightmare which they certainly never deserved..

i would also like to add, that we need to pat our own babies and know that they are safe and well with us.....
unfortunately 10's of these dogs have been euthanaised as they were just too poorly to survive their many infections and injuries..

hoping that any of us can help.. if only 1,

How sad is it that action wasn't taken by the powers that be earlier.

I am just so angry that this (I wont even call her a human) absolute ?//@@# has done this. When I saw her on the news and I'm sure she said that it was for her retirement fund.  That's when I snapped.  She knew exactly what she was doing IMO, it wasnt a case of the work getting away from her or her being incapacitated.  It was pure sick money grubbing greed, nothing more.  I hope she gets more than a slap on the wrist, and barred for EVER owing any type of animal again.

For Christ's sake how long would it have taken her to run a clipper all over them??

I am so sorry Carlene,  I would take one in in a heartbeat(OH depending), but sadly, I would be worried about temperarment and with young children, their safety has to come first.

Is there any other way I could help out?  I could give a little bit of a donation, but I would want it to be given DIRECTLY to the person that is caring for one of these poor angels.

I actually worked it out. They said 101 poodles didnt they originally? Or was it 101 dogs and most were poodles? Based on roughly 100 poodles stripped down with a #7 blade all over, one person can, on their own, clip 3 dogs a day, and have them all done in a month, then start over. Given that with a #7 blade the job of maintaining would be quick and easy, thats NOT a lot of work for someone who LIVES off these animals. Plus, always remembering two things: mild climates in QLD mean that the dogs (if washed) can be allowed to air dry so that cuts down grooming time by a huge amount... AND not all were standards. She had a lot of toys and minis too I believe.

I wish I could take one or more but with 4 dogs in my house already, plus a puppy, I am stretched already for space and finances.

I will ask around and put the word out.

And btw, I hope she gets the most severe fine and is banned from ever owning dogs again. However how likely is it? She's been banned from the canine associaton before but always manages to sue and have herself reinstated apparently.

Haven't heard anything more, but I have noticed that she has a website up and going and seems to be still selling.
