I've bought a couple of things lately to "enhance" the grooming experience for us.  One is great, the other is terrible.

The Andis Cordless Pet Trimmer - I happened to see this at Target yesterday and since it was only $14, I decided to grab it up.  I thought it would be great for doing the toes and maybe along the lip line.  I just gave it a test run, and it's a TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY.  Mad  It's so feeble that I couldn't get it to hardly cut any hair at all, even when I was practically placing the hairs into it individually.  Roll Eyes  Since I had Poco on the table, we scrapped this new trimmer and just grabbed the regular one again.  Don't waste your money on this trimmer.

I also wanted to get a good hand-vacuum for the studio (where I'm grooming Poco on my drafting table).  It didn't take long before I got tired of dragging the big vacuum through the house just to suck up all that poodle hair.  I went on the hunt at Amazon and found this Black & Decker vacuum...

It's AWESOME!  It wasn't expensive at all, and it's great!  I wanted a corded one because our rechargeable vacuums never last long.  I wanted it to be powerful, and I wanted it to be super easy to empty.  No bags.. I hate those.  This has everything I wanted and it's terrific!  It sucks so strong that I have to kind of pay attention while I'm sucking up the hair or I'd probably suck everything else up too. And it's made for pet hair, so the roller attachment has rubber nubbies instead of bristles.  It's way easy to empty, just pop off the end and dump it out.  In fact, that part's clear so you can see if it's full.  I'm not bothering with the attachments, so I don't know how they are.  But the main part is exactly what I wanted.  Smile  I highly recommend it!

Don't know anything about grooming; but I do work on people hair. I have found that trimmers/scissors, and most blowdryers, need to bought professionally. Haircare products (shampoo, gel) is the same stuff anywhere. Just a rule of thumb, and the exception makes the rule.

PS for a small trimmer try a "penut" by Wahl. They should run around $40 come with a couple clips, and get very close, (I use them for edgeing, and skin fades). Be careful though, then can nip loose skin.

Thanks Helen!!! I love the idea of that small vacuum. Since I have a dedicated dog grooming room (an enclosed porch, nothing too fancy! LOL) I use an old bagless vacuum cleaner my dad got at a garage sale years ago. Its not very powerful but its practical and easy to empty. But yours is fantastic. Now I want one! LOL

For small cordless clippers I'd seen the wahl and have heard great things about them. I never bought one though cause I figured I dont NEED them... But last year Montana won a small cordless clipper. Cant remember the brand. They dont last long once charged but even with the medium blade I get a nice clip. I use them on Billy and on Bonnard now. I love them. So yes, I do recommend small clippers. Quiet and easy to use, cordless or not.
