Greetings all....

We got our standard brown in Dec. 07... he was 12 months old at the time. We actually found the breeder, made two trips down to look at him and his brother and then picked him up in the space of three days. We had been looking at the breed for several months and finally decided to jump. Our Jack Russell and Beagle thought this was a terrible idea, but peace and harmony have since been achieved. Cabernet has turned into a wonderful dog over the last couple of months, and since we got him just prior to a move from NC to a farm we bought in FL he now has plenty of room to run. Which he does, all day long... he has a patrol pattern he follows, oak trees in the front yard... squirrel check... oak trees in the back yard... squirrel check... down along the north fence line... Tully check ( Tully is the neighbors yellow lab)... horse pasture fenceline... errm... shall we say "treat check"... those who have been around dogs and horses will know what I mean... bleck, and then its back to the oaks in the front for the next squirrel check. He does this all day just about with brief stops for water, naps and "catch the russell".

At this point the wife is pretty sure he is ADHD and while I know the breed is active I am beginning to wonder myself lol. He lives up to the breeds reputation of being smart, of that there is no doubt... although it is fairly east to "tilt" him if you are not careful... if he doesn't quite understand what you are asking of him he will go into his repertoire of know tricks, sit, lay, shake etc... and then he just kind of pauses and you have to hit the reset button, this is easily accomplished by picking up the russell and playing " how many times can i jump up and grab his tail before he will chase me"... come to think of it... there are a lot of games that involve getting the russell to chase him...

Hi and welcome!
Ya ADHD I think is a pretty good description of a 1 year old SP, if our boy is any example of the breed. But you said you have a JR? So this should be nothing for you. LOL! I always hear how smart they are too, but until you have one you just can't understand what that really means.
I am sure you and your entire pack are going to be very happy together.

Hello and welcome to the PR! Welcome to Cabernet too. Lovely name! Smile

I think as Roland said, most sps are full of energy till they grow up. I was only just thinking the other day that I dont remember when Montana stopped pacing around the living room, playing with toys, looking for toys, standing in front of the tv, putting toys in your lap, using your still leg as a buttering ram to bounce the toy off as you watch tv, etc etc. It seems she's gone quiet(er) and I didnt even realise it was happening! LOL

Good luck. I'm sure he'll grow out of it. Walks and training, learning tricks and having a 'job' to do help.
