Finally I have a picture that does my baby some justice. For some reason I have an awful time getting a good pic of him because he is black and the light makes him look greasy. He is the opposite of greasy! Toby: I work in the same building as a professional photographer and he did this pic for me (he did others too - but this was the best - toby did not like the studio and did not want to cooperate.). The background was white though so I photoshopped a nice grey background. I love my Toby!! My first standard and my third poodle. He is one year now.

Here is another pic (finally!): As you can see he is not a true black, he is blue. His color has not come in very well yet so we will see. Right now he is black with washed out areas of brown and his skin is pretty light.

Love Toby's portrait in the first post....very nice! If you look close at that picture, you can see some of the brown you mention. Hopefully his coat settles in better, but if he's not showing, it won't matter a ton, and you can enjoy all the interesting elements of the coat as he grows. You are spot on about taking good pics of a black or dark dog. Definitely not easy....some of the best pics of Jamie I have I had a friend who was a professional photographer take those pics for me. They were just casual moments, but she turned out better than most any picture I took of her. I found the only thing more challenging than getting a good picture of a black poodle was trying to get a good picture of my girls when I had Jamie and Shelby together....one being black, the other white....talk about fun....not! Even if I got one focused and with good lighting, the other wasn't....and vice versa. I'm definitely not a pro at photos, so didn't do well there. I'm glad you have the portrait of Toby already...that's super. And you can take more casual pics on your own over time too. I don't think you can have too many pics of them! Thanks for sharing!

Toby is about 1 year and 3 or 4 months, so I probably have some time yet before his color is completed. I think they say up to 2 years for blues.

He is a georgous boy! And I of the horrid photos applaud that this boys eyes can be seen and everything!! Maybe the real reason I went from black dogs into whites was my lack of photography skills. I think I need to go back to black. I miss that georgous color!!

Your photo skills are actually pretty good, Zefi! Maybe you're not a pro shooter like some others, but for a non-pro, I think you do very well most the time!
I do have to agree on the eyes showing up and how the detail overall makes such a huge difference in sharing the beauty of the dark poodles! One of my favourite pictures of Jamie that I have was taken by a friend of mine who had a side photography business for a number of years. I had to ask her to take some pics of some products or something for me, and I had Jamie with, so I had some pics of her taken too. Glad I did...as they at least show her more decently than any I took.
Really, all colours of poodles have their own beauties, so it's nice to see that captured in some great photos!
