As I write tonight, Bonnard is at the vet. He's had surgery.

On Saturday morning early he and Montana were outside playing and obviously running rampant in the yard. I heard a small whine and went out and saw him limping out from behind the garage. He had dirt all over one side of his body so I figured he'd slipped and fell during play and pulled a muscle. I brought him in and settled him next to me in the office and thought I'd wait and see how he went later in the day before calling the vet. After all... puppies do stupid things. Eh. And it was early. The vet wouldnt be opened yet....

Then I stood up and he got up and moved to follow me and I heard a click. Clicking when he moved. That didnt sound good. So I called the vet soon as I could and made an appointment. I was sure he'd just put a joint out or something but it wasnt something I wanted to leave. Just in case.

The vet thought he'd pulled a muscle in his shoulder. He was very sore but she didnt think it was serious. Gave me anti-inflamatories to give him and said to take him in in a few days to have his shoulder xrayed if it wasnt better. I figured I may as well get his hips and elbows done at the same time so I made the appointment today, payday.

Well... the vet called me at lunchtime to say he'd BROKEN HIS SHOULDER.

He explained it all and I dont remember any of the technical terms, but there's a kind of ridge on the shoulder blade and Bonnard has broken this off. He said that this happens to dogs when they run into things hard. And that without wires to hold it in place it wont heal and he'll always have pain and lameness. So he had surgery today and he's in there recovering. I'll hopefully bring him home tomorrow.

The thing is he was BETTER. I almost postponed the xrays cause I cant really afford them! I am SO glad I put my dogs before my bills! sheesh.

On the positive side the vet said his hips look great.  Smile

Oh Zefi, so sorry to hear about Bonnard.  Hope he comes through surgery and convalescence with flying colours - that boy is a handful!

I'm so glad to hear that Bonnard is on the mend.  Doesn't it just break your heart when your babies aren't well??

Give him a special hug for me (if he likes hugs).

Are you planning on breeding him?

Keeping him still is like torturing him. Sigh.... I moved his crate into the kitchen/living room area so he can see everyone and be part of things but he hates it. He hates being crated and penned. Right now he's in the office with me and he's got ants in his pants. He hasnt stopped playing with the ball since we got in here and when he moves around the house he jumps and bounces and cannot be controlled. sigh.

You know... I raised two girls who ran and played rough and went crazy, and I managed to get them both through their puppyhood without bad injury. Now Bonnard seems self destructive. He jumps, he leaps, he has no concept of what taking it easy means. Its time for some serious training... but he's out of control wild and full of energy.  Roll Eyes

I think I've had enough of big standard poodle boys! I think I'll stick to smaller more delicate girls! LOL
