I am also new here. I have recently (well it doesn't really seem that recent since Tia has made such a claim on my heart) got my first standard poodle. Tia is a 3yo chocolate bitch. I lost both of the last of my salukis after having the breed for about 20 years &, not being ready to face another that was not "family" I looked around for something different. Of course I had to deal with friends saying things like "You're getting a what????. I am pleased to report they have all been converted after getting to know Tia.
At the moment we are working on getting her third pass for her CCD. She has also learned to play "fetch" with either a tennis ball or a toy dumbell that squeaks but we have to do some work on the final stages of bringing it back to me rather than near me or running past me with it.
She is also turning out to be quite an accomplished herder as she does her best to keep our new foal near his mother when they come up for feeds & in seeing off the cows from next door that get into the horse paddocks.
She has also quickly learned about how to cope with a friend with MS who is mostly in a wheelchair figuring out quite quickly that he is not very stable on his feet when upright & that she needs to wait for him to be settled in his chair before greeting him in true poodle fashion.
I live in East Gippsland in Victoria near the Ninety Mile Beach.
I look forward to hearing more about others & their dogs & learning a lot as well. Of course there is a strong possibility that I won't stop at one standard now I have been converted as well:D

MPS = Multiple Poodle Syndrome! It's very contagious...and strikes when you least expect it (like after bringing #1 home!). Smile

Sounds like Tia is doing great and taking to her new home very well. And you're right....a lot of people will be "like what?" but once they get to know a poodle, they have different opinions. I once would have turned my nose up at poodles....thinking they were too prissy and high brow. Then, after working with some for a while, I came to the viewpoint of "they aren't so bad".....to actually owning one.....and then another.....and will own another again too. Smile Though you will always love your Saluki's....Tia is welcoming you to a new chapter in life....and the wonderful world of poodles! We look forward to seeing pics and hearing more about Tia and her new home! Welcome aboard....

Hello Karen.  Welcome to poodle worshippers anonomyus!  Can't wait to see photos of Tia.  I would also love to see some of you saluki's as well if it is not too painful for you.

There's also a how-to on posting pics in the photo section....so maybe that'll help you out. But if you still need helping posting images, either PM or email me and I can help out. Definitely always nice to see pics! Smile
