have any of you tryed out the Geib machine? the scissors are called buttercut?

I have a Wahl KM-SS single speed & Andis AG Professional clippers.I do, however, have to get some more scissors & am tempted by the idea of some curved ones to help get the topknot right more easily. Do they really help?

I've seen them work great down at the legs, actually...

I was tempted to by one, when i saw how easy it looked curving the legs Tongue

On the clippers: my first were Oster A5s and I hated them. Got too hot, too heavy and too noisy.

I have an older Wahl single speed which I love but it also a bit heavier and noisier. Still, they work well and dont heat up.

I have a pair of Andis single speed too which I love and use more than the Wahls. They dont heat up, dont heat the blades as fast and they are much quieter.

If I had to buy a new pair I'd buy the Wahl II two speed ones which have a nice small ergonomic shape and are cute to look at.

I have Buttercut blades which I am happy with. I dont think they're any different from the Andis or Oster blades. But I do like my Wahl blades. They seem to cut smoother somehow. Especially in the real close blades.

Scissors:

I LOVE curves. I have 3 curves and 2 straight shears and I tend to use the curves more and for everything. Mine are EHASO which I got from Germany (made by Solingen) and Roseline from England. I have tried the Buttercut shears in the straight and liked them a lot but I always prefer the mat silver finish for some reason. They seem to feel like they cut better.  Big Grin

I use curves for all round bits like pom poms and topknot, tail and rosettes. I only ever use the straights on long legs on standards....

A Big Grin I had to give Tia another bath today (for the first time she rolled in a patch of grass that just happened to have fresh cow droppings concealed in part of it)- not saying she did it just cos I bathed & clipped her two days ago to make her look nice to meet my mum for the first time. Gave her a final tidy up after getting her blow dried again & from what you say it sounds like I will indeed have to invest in some curved scissors asap.

Once you use curved scissors you will know why they are so wonderful! Especially on poodles! Definitely worth the investment.

For clippers, I have two sets of Oster A5s. Have had them for over 10 years, since way back when I had Jamie. You all may laugh at this, but I groomed her for over a year by myself with only sewing scissors! I used kiddie Fiskar scissors for feet and other areas I needed small access for. Was a lot of work, but we both enjoyed it. I desparately wanted clippers, though, and since my grooming experience was *only* with Osters back then, I was only too glad to find the A5s when I did. Both were used...one from an auction (almost new though...maybe only used a couple times it looked like), and the other from a yard sale that I got for a song.....about a week after I'd gotten the ones at the auction! I couldn't complain. Smile Got both combined for less than half of what one new set would have cost! Only got the #10 blades with them, so had to order a few, and got Oster blades from Jeffers if I recall correctly. Since I've only had one poodle at a time, I have certainly not given them a workout, so they've worked fine for me.

I have no problem with the Osters, but the complaints about getting too hot and too heavy are common....so you can take that as pretty much spot on. They do make a "cool" wrap for the Osters, but that fattens them up a bit more and maybe that just says something about them. I've heard good comments from others about the Wahl's and Andi's clippers, so any one of those would be fine. If you have a chance to try all of the major brands out and see for yourself, all the better. But if not, any one will serve the purpose. Just weigh the pros/cons mentioned already in your decision. Just be sure to get "real" grooming clippers....most of which take the A5 type blades!

I have 2 sets of A5 Osters.  I just love them.  Have used them forever.  Yes they do heat up, but they are survivors  Big Grin  One I use on the face, feet and tail, the other clipper I do the body coat with on pets of course.

I love both my straight and curved scissors.

Haven't used Laube's, but have heard good things on them too....just don't know if they're any better than any others. But on Laube's site, they have a link to an independent clipper comparison:

http://kimlaubeco.com/index2.html

It's just a graphic and chart, but if it helps anyone, might as well share the link. Smile Would love to hear some more firsthand comparisons from anyone who's used all of the major brands.

Mindy - Any recommendations on scissor brands? I've only got some cheapie curved scissors, but have used better ones years ago. I should ask Anne what she's got....but any input is good. Good scissors can be pricey, so is probably good to get some recommendations before spending the money on them.

I'd be interested in the review of scissors too. I don't want to buy rubbish but don't want to spend money unnecessarily on a "name" brand for the sake of it. .
