Well, it's been awhile, but we all knew there'd be another poodle around here eventually! I still miss Amber and Jamie every day, but it turns out the time is apparently right to open a new chapter in life. I'd told Anne (Amber and Jamie's breeder) in August that if she knew of anything......that I'd be open to considering something in the near future. She knows me pretty well and what I would like and could handle, so I didn't have to say much more. And interestingly, much like when she first told me about Amber, she almost straight off told me about this 2 year old bitch she had named Dahlia. There's a long story here I won't get into, but she's already got her Can. Ch., and Anne's just hoping to breed her now and then will retire her. After discussing things, we've decided to have her in a home other than for the breeding, and so she told me to come get Dahlia a couple weeks ago (just before the end of the year). So, I did. Smile

I'd met Dahlia in August and again a couple more times over the past few months. Shelby had gotten to meet her as well, and got along as well as she and Amber did the first time they'd met, so I gathered all would be ok once they got to know each other.

Dahlia, is of course, named Black Dahlia......and though she's shaved down to bare bones pet coat right now, I can tell she has a lovely velvety black coat that is really nice to pet even in short stage. I'll let her ears grow in, but will probably keep her tail shaved as is in the pics, and otherwise mostly pet coat for this girl, I'm thinking. Dahlia is a miniature, as both my other poodles have been so far. I really love the mini size! Smile

So, we've been adjusting to a new girl in our lives the past couple weeks now. Shelby's getting along with her pretty well, and they play at times wildly. Dahlia is far more agile and active than either Jamie or Amber were, so Shelby's got a bit more to contend with now! And Dahlia's a sucker for cuddling up against me at night, and tagging along whenever I walk anywhere in the house. She's sweet in her own ways, so though there are moments I am reminded of either Jamie or Amber, it's almost hard to compare her to them. She's herself and that's how I'll appreciate her. We're still working on some routines here....she's a very slow eater, and in comparison to Shelby that's taking some adjustment to keep her fed well. But we're getting there....bit by bit, day by day.

We've already had some adventures and misadventures in the past couple weeks, so I'm sure there will be more to share in the future. So, am sure you'll be hearing more about Dahlia in the coming weeks, months, and years! Smile Below is a pic of her I took a little over a week ago. Nothing fancy....just plain Dahlia. Enjoy.....

Well, she's Dahlia for sure....no mistaking her for anyone else.....she's definitely got her own personality. Her middle name seems to be Trouble! She's definitely a firecracker in many ways. Quite active and playful, and even a bit destructive. 3 toys have coughed up the ghost already....thanks to her! And she just grabbed a small book off a shelf like it was a toy.....good thing I was right there to take it back! She's a strong little girl too....very muscular....which is probably partially from how active she is. Yet, when she settles down, she's as mild as any sweet poodle can be. So, she's got that down pretty well too. A bit mindless in many ways, but she's no dummy either. She's definitely keeping me on my toes lately.

And she does have a lovely black coat. Just so velvety soft and wonderful. And darling eyes, of course....but all my poodles have had lovely eyes.

I'll take more pics when I can. The one above was one of four I took that night. I had the living room fully lit and my camera was still showing almost entirely black in the viewfinder, so I was essentially shooting blind with those. So, hopefully in the months to come I can get better pics. But that's at least to share a bit of her for now! Smile The little devil horns apparently don't show in the pictures! Big Grin

Every dog I have ever gotten has turned me on my head in new ways. Dahlia is no exception. She'd a wild girl! Thank goodness when she settles down she's as sweet as anything, but when she's wild, she's *wild*! Strong little girl too.....very active and nonstop busy-ness. A stark difference to Amber, who you could watch and just hear the gears turning in her head. Dahlia's a bit more....well, shall we say...some things go right over her head.....a bit absent minded in ways. But she's not dumb.....just an attention span that doesn't seem like it exists. But she has a lot of fun, and she's getting along well here. Seems happy and enjoys running around the house and playing with the toys and even wrestling with Shelby. Shelby's even come to me at times with a look in her face like "can't you take the batteries out of her for awhile?" Anyway, a different joy in our lives, but a joy nonetheless.....and we're learning to appreciate her for the good she is. And even accepting the wild tasmanian strains that seem be in her blood too.
