Hello All,
I am a new member located in Inverness, Florida.

I have a 1 year old, male, standard poodle named Sioux. He is named for the Johnny Cash song “A Boy Named Sue.” The man in the song is given a girl name to make him tough. Poodles seem to have such an undeserved reputation for being prissy that the name seemed slightly ironic to me. It appealed to my sense of humor and somehow I got the impression it would appeal to Sioux as well. If nothing else, it guaranteed me a tough dog! (and boy is he tough!).

He is a very happy boy. He is a great big 70 pound clown of a poodle. His crazy parti coloring looks like a mad painter just started splashing him. His back legs are the best. One is black and one is white and his poof ball tail matches them exactly so that his butt looks like a yin-yang. He loves to show it off with a high stepping “look at me” poodle prance.

I wish I had some pictures like the rest of you but when I went to post one I found my picture files corrupted. I will have to take some more (or fix the files). I will post them when I get a chance.

I hope to meet some new people and learn more about life with superior canines.

I know what you mean about the way people see Poodles - especially standards. My friends were all horrified when I said I was getting a standard after many many years of hounds (salukis & Irish wolfhounds most recently). They have all changed their minds from that original horrified "You're getting a what?!!!" to the current attitude of "they are really a great dog aren't they?" Tia has her own fan club & I am pleased to hear more people say how impressed they are by poodles & that they aren't a bit like they had imagined them to be.

Welcome, Destin and Sioux! I totally LOVE the name Sioux for a boy poodle! Smile Excellent! Also love the song, and lots of other Johnny Cash material, so all round you got me on this one! Smile We're glad you joined up and hope that this indeed is a great resource for discussing all things poodle and maybe even getting to know more poodle people in your area in time.

I also totally understand the viewpoint both of you have mentioned....people just have stereotypical views of poodles until they get to know them....of any size.

BTW....at some point you're gonna HAVE to get some pics of Sioux taken and share with us! He sounds gorgeous, so you'll have to show us some great pics one of these days!

I cant wait to see Sioux. He sounds like a spiritual brother to Bonnard the big black wild child. LOL

With my indian themed litter I really really wanted to name a boy Sioux as well. I didnt in the end cause I didnt keep any boys. But I was going to name one Pantone Boy Named Sioux to play on both the song and the indian theme. Great name! Smile

By the way, you may like my tshirt that says 'he's secure in his manhood, are you?' LOL I love that design and now I have a boy in a 'foofoo' trim I need to wear it a lot!
