Hello all, I haven't been on in a while.I am still looking for a white SP, but all I have found are BYBs and legitimate breeders that charge 1500+ for a pup. That is just too expensive for me.Are there any dedicated breeders with real world prices for their pups?

That is a normal price for a standard poodle. Even for toys a lot of the time.
Have you considered an adult poodle? Sometimes breeders rehome older puppies that dont work out as show dogs, some are as young as 6mths, others may be 12 months or older. Sometimes they'll rehome titled dogs who dont pass health tests for breeding (ie, the hips may not be good enough to breed from, though they are fine for everything else and the dog wont be lame). Or you can look at rescue. Sometimes people give up pets for their own reasons. Most states have a contact through the poodle club who helps with rehoming rescue poodles.

i don't mind an adult dog,I just haven't found any in my area yet. Suprisingly,I havent found any rescues either which to me is kinda strange. i shall keep looking. My limit for a price at this time is 800 which is absolutely fair. I dont mind paying a good price for what I want, but as we are in a recession and my husband has been laid off,we have to be reasonable, too.

Where do you live?
Shelters rarely have purebred Poodles, but generally there are small rescues that have Poodles being fostered in family homes.
Depending on how much you are willing to get into, you may be able to co-own a dog with a breeder... generally a female that they want to keep in their breeding program, but want her to benefit from having her own family. Often that kind of arrangement is set so the breeder will take the female back for a few months while they have a litter 1-3 times, then she would be spayed and full ownership signed over... the breeder pays for all health testing and litter costs, the family pays for food, grooming, routine vet stuff...

If you are in Australia there are a few standard poodles in rescue & mature dogs, some not so old, in your price range for re home. Older pups at reduced price also. Also you may have factored it in, but if not, consider the grooming costs, if you cant do it yourself. Poodles are high maintenance & need clipping every few weeks, quite pricey.

one of the reasons I wish to have a Poodle is to participate in grooming competitions.I like to style hair, both human and canine! I have all the grooming tools already,as I groom my friends' dogs in my spare time. I am saving up more $$$ for my poodle....good things come to those who wait, right? It's soooo hard to exercise patience. And you pay for quality too....Thanks for cooling my jets and making me slow down and THINK before I buy! I really DO know better...but those dreams of white poodles were dancing in my head clouding my judgment ! I live in Pennsylvania USA. If anyone can recommend a conscientious breeder in my area , please let me know.

I have found a breeder located about 45 mins. away from my home! Champion bloodlines, health certs, working therapy dogs.....I will be going to check the pups out in two weeks. I am excited, and I hope everything pans out! Thanks for the rescue link,Zefi, but I since I don't have a fenced-in yard,I did not qualify for a dog from them.

keep the faith...
if there is a poodle out there for you, she/he will find you..
all 4 of mine have found me over the years, I havent looked for one yet...
as for all those grooming costs... pfft.... just grow the cords, harry is yet to have a brush threw him and we have had him for 5 years now...
and pearl the girl gets a full clip every eight weeks... too easy, short of a quick shower with me on saturday mornings before a walk...
good luck

So..I went to check out the breeder and she is awesome, and so are the dogs! She showed all the health certs & titles right off the bat-I didn't have to ask! She has six dogs and breeds infrequently. All the dogs are housedogs and well-loved. A breeding is planned for this month, the last litter was bred last year. Am I lucky, or what? If all goes well, pups should be here Jan/Feb. I am so glad I waited!

Looks like we may both be adding poodles to our families at around about the same sort of time as I am waiting on a pup being born too. May all go well & you have a wonderful new dog to bring delight into your life

Well,I may have to wait until the fall to bring home my Poodle..The breeder has a litter now, but I am not sure if this is the right time for me to bring a dog into the picture since I am having a baby in 3 weeks! I am sure I can handle it but the hubby isn't convinced(he should know better, though! lol) I just want to make the right decision,so the breeder and I have been discussing things.Just giving you all an update!
