Sassy turned 16 months old this month. She went through her second heat season and now she seems to want to sleep or just be laying by me or on my lap most of the time.

She stopped playing like she use to. Oh, she plays fetch maybe 2-3 times if I throw the ball but use to she was almost a pain in the behind playing fetch.  It seems to have changed with this last heat cycle.

Now she seems determined to either sleep or lay beside me or on my lap a huge portion of the time. She goes to her kennel cab at about 10 at night and is determined to go to bed at that time or gets antsy. She wakes up about 6 and I take her out then she gets in bed with us until about 8:30 or so when I get up.

Most of the day she seems content to be beside me in my chair or on my lap if I am at the computer. She just doesn't play like she use to.

I am wondering about other toy poodle owners whose poodles have reached about this age.

Does this seem unusual to you or more normal?

I guess I am a worrier. She use to play ball or sock endlessly but suddenly seems more like an older dog.

She eats really well twice a day and is eager to take walks to the mailbox and for our "walk about" as we call our evening walk. She is roudy if company comes, and if she hears a noise she is up and "at em".

She is just different then my other toy poodle was years ago. Tiffany ran and played a lot at age 5 even.

Maybe there are just that much difference in toy poodles. I would like to hear from as many of you as will reply.

I will say that she is VERY attached to me as she is my hubby, but much more to me. She almost panics when I get out of the car and leave her there with my hubby to run in someplace.

So what do you think? Is she just content or does it seem like she could not feel well?

That kind of change in behaviour would worry me too. Doubt it has anything to do with the season but why not take her to the vet for a general check up.
It could be something like her back is sore, or anywhere else & its not obvious. Check up cant do any harm.
All my toy poodles are energetic, even my 7 year old. They are not a couch potato breed. Extremes of hot & cold weather can make them stay in bed more but they are lively dogs generally. Hope she bucks up for you.

Its been a long time since you posted this, how is Sassy now?

My first thought went to the way my girls always get sooky when they are in season, and the Pagan would sometimes get all clucky and maternal. The season before her last litter she collected toys and 'nested' even though she hadnt been mated.

A friend of mine has a toy who goes through the whole nesting thing seriously every season. She even had a couple of false pregnancies.
