Hello...... I'm so thrilled to be on this site! I have my dream doggie. I've pined (whined) for a Standard for years. I was unable to get a rescue, as I live so far North in Michigan, the rescue people could not come up and do a 'home check'. Also, finding a Standard to be adopted is not common. They fly out the door like hot cakes!
So, I had to research breeders.....I'm not opposed to them, it's just that all my pets have been rescues/adoptions.
Well, after researching for months .... I called my girlfriend who works at Chicago's Anti-Cruelty Society, and mentioned if she came across a Standard to call me.
Welllllll, she had an 'owner turn-in' and called. Sooo, after a 6 hr. drive, there standing in the lobby with my friend was this striking, pitch black, 13 mo. female, fixed, micro-chipped and trained... waiting for her new/forever home with me!!
I've had extensive experience with dogs, Stds etc... I was animal rescue/placement etc.. for the previous 15 yrs. However, here's my question. When do Standards generally reach maturity... weight and height wise??? 1 yr. 3 months, 6 months....???
We are in heaven. She (LILAH) as in De-LILAH, walked in to our home, as if she owned it. She intergrated with our 8 lb. Maltese and cat. She does not counter surf, get on furniture (she doesn't know it, but I'd let her if she did), sleeps in her giant bed in our bedroom, does not beg, jumps in the back of my SUV and lays down, sits - shakes hands, comes etc... housebroken. Only thing she jumps up on me and people....
Love her, but my husband is F U R I O U S........ Uh Oh....
Thank all of you for your replies/responses forthcoming - I hope.
