I have two different types of cooling mats I bought to use when its really hot, especially at dog shows. Once cant be used for poodles at dog shows as its damp, the other is fine. The damp one is filled with some kind of gel crystals which absorb water when soaked and they stay cool for ages. The other one is a regular rug but has a slot in the middle where you can put frozen pads which come with the rug.

This is what I'd suggest for home, and for shows for that matter, if you want the dog to stay cool but not get wet. Buy those ice packs you can put in containers to keep drinks or food cold. Freeze them and put them under blankets for the dogs to go lie on when they need cooling down.

The other one I don't now but I can do the same with the ice packs and towels ;-)

Yep. Thats the thing. Icepacks under towels or blankets will provide coolness without the wetness.
