Just wanted to post a note on some issues that may be of help to some, as I know not everyone is familiar with the forum/board format. Mainly, I suggest poking around....read posts, threads, and give a whirl at replying and posting your own threads. Click on your profile and edit your settings....add a signature, location info, whatever.

It may also help to click on the HELP button right below your "hello, yourname" message above. The HELP button takes you to a general help section for this (SMF) type of forum/board. Take your time looking through those pages and seeing how the options work. Especially if you have a question about something particular. If something still boggles or frustrates you and you know it shouldn't, feel free to send me a PM or email. Mary (EskieMa) can be of good help too. Zefi's still learning all the bells and whistles here too, but she'll help on anything she's able as well.

A few features that may not seem obvious, but are very worthy, I will mention. Where the message says "Hello, yourname" above, follow that line all the way to the right...you'll see the time/date. On the right side of that is either a + or - sign. Click on it. It will flip to the other sign, and expand or contract the header section. You'll see some extra links in that when it's open! Notice in the lower category listing on the main page, there are some more + or - signs lower on the page. Try clicking on those as well....to expand or contract sections! Try that wherever you see those.....and find the setting that you like best!

On the main page, or any forum listing page, you will see some paw print icons on the left of the thread/forum listings. If there are posts you have not read, these show up in the dark paw print icon. If you have read all the posts therein, it shows the lighter paw print icon. This is a quick/easy way to see if there are posts you have not read.....a nice at a glance way of seeing. Also..if you expand the header noted above, there are links to viewing recent posts and unread replies, etc. The view recent posts link is at the bottom of the main page in the Forum Stats table. Feel free to click on these and see if you find them handy or not. Some people do, and find it's a simple way to access the most recent posts.

There is a "quick reply" feature on the boards. You DO have to make sure it's ticked ON as an option in your profile, so go check that out. A Quick Reply box will then appear on the bottom of EVERY thread page. This way, you can read the thread, and just hit in a quick reply and hit "post". Rather than going to a full reply page, then hitting post. It's just a quick and easy way to hit replies. You can click this feature off if you don't like it too, but some of us really like it! Smile

There are a few other nice features of the board. You can send and receive private messages between other members. To see your own message box, click on "my messages" on the grey menu bar above. If you have unread messages, it will show the number in that menu on any page! So, keep an eye on that regularly. You can send a PM to other members if the icon is showing under their name/info on the side of any post. Just hover over the icons to see what they do.

There is a member map here....where you can place a pin to share your location with the rest of us. Not necessary, but is nice to see. Click on the grey menu "map" link.

We have a chat room that members (and non-members as well) can utilize 24/7. Click on Chat in the top (lighter) menu bar above or on the bottom of any page. Choose a username, chatroom, and login (you have to accept the certificate...read the info page if you want to on that). Then chat away. It's a great way to meetup and discuss any matters with others. Again, it's 24/7, so you can use it anytime.

We have a calendar connected as well. This is currently setup so only admin/mods can add events, but all members can view them. So, if you know of a poodle related event, please let one of us know and we can add it to the calendar.

We'll continue to add to the site, and hope to keep improving the forums by bits as well. So far, the sections here are in working progress. If you have suggestions for a better arrangement, feel free to let me know. I've mostly duplicated a format that's worked for eskies, but have made a few adjustments for poodles here too. Smile I want to keep shaping this so it works for our members and poodle related discussions, so don't hesitate to make suggestions, compliments, complaints or anything. The best method to contact me is via email, but PMs work well too.

But, overall...play around, get a feel for how things work, and feel free to ask on any features you don't seem to understand or just can't get to work right. We'll do what we can to help.

Thanks...

I have given the chat room a go a few time, but with the time differences no one is ever there.
maybe we could organize a topic and a designated time, or is that too constructed..

or maybe just wait till you are in the land down under and wanting a break from chopping all Zefi's firewood!

hmmm...while I'm out chopping firewood, Zefi could be in chatting with y'all....now wouldn't that be awful! Frown

For chats, yes, it does either take someone to just stop in and sit around and check back often to see if anyone's popped in, OR arrange a rough time with someone else and "meet" there. Otherwise, it indeed is a lonely experience. With a number of you in Australia, I am sure a few of you could arrange a time amongst yourselves if you liked, and the North American folks could do likewise. I have thought of doing something like a "weekly" chat on a particular (different each time) topic, but wasn't sure when to do so and when to start it. If there's interest, we could look into giving it a go.

Just so you Aussies and 'Mericans know.....the time difference is considerable, but not unmanageable. At present, I know that Zefi is at 9 hours "behind" me, but a day ahead (so, technically 15 hours ahead, but it's hard to think that direction). So, at 9pm my time, it's noon her time. I am in Central time in the US, so Mary in VA would be 10 hours off, and Helen in AZ should be 7 or 8 hours off. Thus, if you folks in Oz don't mind meeting up with us around mid-day, us folks over here can aim for an evening chat. Or some variation of sorts. But we'll have to play around with all that. So let us know what you all think of a weekly chat idea on a particular topic, and what times would work best for everyone.

Hey Zefi and Michael- I want to know how to put a photo in my signature line!  What's the secret!

Spent the morning trimming poodle prior to a bath, but gave up on the idea of the bath in the end.  He looks quite nice for the moment. My energy died.  Sooner or later I will have to bath him to wash off the cocoa powder off his legs from when they took a cake mix out of the cupboard and snuck it into the back yard a couple weeks ago...

Check this link out:

http://forum.poodleroom.com/index.php/topic,70.0.html

Helene had posted that on the Eskie Board, and Mary copied it over for us recently. The principles work the same here. Posting pics in sigs and in posts works the same. You need to use the img tags....so, something like this:

Code:
[img]http://www.eskie.net/forum/folders/main/AS_42t1.jpg[/img]

Would show the image in my sig. You just need to use your own image for that. For sigs, you do need to go to your profile information and edit the sig information there. So, just insert the image line and test it out. You should probably get it working before long!

PS....yep, clean poodles are a good thing! Wink
