The girls are wearing Black Dog Halters - they are basically Gentle Leaders or Haltis but better in the way they fit. I have both haltis and a GL and neither of them were as comfortable on Pagan as the Black Dog one. Pagan has very sensitive skin on the bridge of her nose and she spent most of her show career with white powder over the red areas from the halti. The Black Dog ones are somehow easier on that area. Not sure how, but they are.

The link is www.blackdog.net.au. I love their stuff. I have the purple halter and lead for Montana (only the red halter for Pagan as I got that at the obed club back when...) I also have a training collar for Montana in matching purple.

Didn't inspect the statues closely, and I'm no expert on sculpting, but the walrus like ones are seals or sea lions. My first guess is Australian Fur Seals, but would have to look them up in one of my seal books. Smile Since these have the external ear flaps, they are not "true seals". Sea Lions, Australian Fur Seals, and a few others have external ear flaps, so it's definitely possible that's what these are.

The Japanese Spitz is *very* similar to our eskies, but the JS is limited in size. If you recall our discussion on the three sizes for eskies: toy, miniature, standard, the JS would be basically comparable to the miniature variety of eskies. So, our medium size. But they are only a bit smaller than some our standards as well, so not that far off from them either. I really think that if someone snuck a JS into one of our shows over here that no one would blink an eye. And likewise in return if the miniature size eskie was used. Many of us think they have a common history, just that they separated at some point (like less than 100 years ago) and are really the same basic dog, just somewhat removed from each other for the past years. Sort of parallel development to some degree.

Anyway, yes, it's all been very interesting so far, and we're both anxiously awaiting the puppies. Signs are showing up and we'll hopefully be getting into that within hours. Smile And pics to follow soon...

I can't believe that Pagan is about ready to have those puppies!!  Holy cow!  It seems so FAST!

Sea lions.. that's right. I was so fascinated with looking at how perfectly the flippers curved down over the rocks, I wasn't paying much attention to anything else.  The artist must have made a cast of the rocks first.  Interesting!

Seeing the Spitzes must have made you feel right at home, Michael.  I bet you miss your babies.

I looked around Black Dog, Zefi.  I never heard of them.  If they are more gentle than the others, that's good to know.  I should get something like that for Chula.  She's SO STRONG, it's lucky she's a good girl on the lead, cuz if she has it in her head to pull, there's not a lot I can do about it.

Pagan and Tana look so beautiful walking along.  I bet they draw a lot of eyes from passersby!

Great photos Michael. It sounds like you are haveing a great time.
I have always wanted to go for a holiday in Tasmania and those photos have really convinced me even more.  My Mum went on a tour there a few years ago and has been hinting at us to go (and take her of course!!) so a trip might be on the cards.
It is nice to see the faces behind the names on the computer screen.  One day when I get a half decent one of myself I will put it up too.

There hasn't been any puppy news posted so I hope that everything is okay with Pagan and that no news is good news. Starting to worry now.

No need to worry....but I'll let Zefi post the announcement!  Cool

As for Tasmania...yes, it's quite nice. Since I'm from a rural part of the USA, it's not too out of step for me. Different in many ways, but also similar in many others. Overall, it's quite nice, and if you do a vacation and see some of the more scenic and historic areas of interest, it's really a wonderful experience. I came not only to see Tasmania, but to spend time with Zefi and help with the puppies and work on some projects together and whatnot. So, my aim is slightly different than most people who take a vacation type of thing...but no matter what you come here for, it's well worth doing! Smile

GUESS WHAT I JUST SAW ON YAHOO NEWS!

US Customs is stopping people coming from NZ and Australia and making sure they aren't bringing Vegemite into the country!

Can you believe that?  Watch out Michael.. you don't get to bring any home!

Sheesh....what is the stuff, bomb making material? I can see if they don't allow it in your carryon, as they don't allow any liquids, gels, etc., but in your checked baggage...come on. BTW....I did make it back through customs with a few jars.....and even told the guy that's what I had on the declaration card.....let me through like nothing....no problems....

But I sure hope I can get more in the future..... Wink

PS- this IS weird...just found the following links:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3838368a4560,00.html

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,20641599-1702,00.html

So, a little extra vitamin in your diet isn't a welcome thing in the US? Sheesh. Talk about dumb!

You're back home?  I didn't know that!  I thought you were still over there tripping over puppies!  (did you smuggle any of THOSE home too?)

How bizarre about the Vegemite, huh!  I never heard of until you and Zefi told us about it, and suddenly we find out it's a danger to Society!   Tongue 2 Tongue 2

Greg told me about that the other night. He said Michael was lucky to get his vegemite through customs in the USA and he better enjoy it cause he wont be getting any more now they 'outlawed' it in the USA! How stupid!

Yeh, I had to head back.....things to do here too...

And no, none of the puppies followed me home....though I tried to leave before I couldn't resist! Wink But I had my two girls waiting for me here, so that was good to get back to.

And I'm totally surprised the US would think Vegemite is a danger to society....go figure! So much for our priorities. Oh well...
